so on Friday morning i went on about a 2 hour ride just to enjoy the spring air here in Italy. When i parked the bike and went to start it the next day it would not start. the bike would crank but i did not hear the fuel pump prime, i have spark at the plug. I am checking relays today and all the fuses are good. What could be the problem? Is it the kill switch that i have read about on other forums?

I would double check the fuel recall first, I know models were having issues with those... 2nd part, yes, it could be the "kill" switch, only way to diagnose besides the wiring schematics would be to jump and bypass the switch but that requires a ton of extra work and know how as to what you can and cannot do... If you are not capable of doing it yourself, you are going to have to pay someone that will...

If you have ignition, great, now you need fuel as you alway have air.... If the fuses are good then yes you can move on down the river of the electrical prowess, make sure you are going circuit by circuit, not all at once...

yeah i gotten the fuel recall fix in December, i brought the bike to Harley yesterday and i am waiting on the word from them. she i still under warranty so i am not to worried about it right now. just like to try and fix the problem myself before i spend to much money letting someone else do the work. thank you for replying

Ok so the running lean/rich issues are supposed to be fixed... According to the recall... Well, since you took it there no need to update us here unless that's something you want to do... I am curious though... And as I have said before, if it is out of your capabilities, then you have to get someone that is qualified to do the job.... twice...

kinda irritated with the this Harley shop. they want to go straight into replacing the fuel pump because they don't hear it prime. i personally think that they want to make money ( 506 euro) off of me since i am an american in their country. so they are giving me the run around with warranty and what is exactly wrong. but once i get a for sure answer i will update. maybe it will help the next guy down the line.

To a point yes, the relay is just a control device used for typical pumps, lights, flashers, etc... Easily fixed and replaced if it is just a relay, highly doubt it... Look at the device pulling the amperage and doing the work in that circuit after the easy stuff is checked, like battery voltage, fuses, relays, then the device being used...

Trigger circuit of the relay? Do tell what that is....

They can do alot to test it out, and I am sure they did, but the problem isn't just the fuel pump, it's the warranty and the service department... Hold them accountable... If it fails within a certain warranty period, and it is supposed to be replaced, besides maintenance wear and tear items like brakes, oil changes, adjustments etc, then hold them accountable... Unless you have a crazy extended warranty and all that is contract covered just by paying a small deductible...

feels like i have been pulling teeth all week between talking to the American Harley Corporation and the the European Harley Corporation my bike is finally under warranty here and it is being fixed cost free (thank god Harley supports the military). The fuel pump should be fixed by Monday and we shall see if that is the problem then. i am sticking to my guns with the "kill switch" being bad but we shall see soon enough. thank you guys for all of the support]

I don't understand the big deal though... If it is covered it's covered...

Which branch of military? And what country? Of course HD is supportive, look at the american military...

Well they would be the ones doing the diagnosis and the repairs, they want to test it out fully before throwing parts at it.... You just said the pump was being replaced, now you suspect the kill switch is the culprit in the first place? I am lost....

I remember when I took my 2010 Majesty back to Yamaha for a No Start. It would start. Just had to sit for awhile. The Mechanics turned the key on. No Pump Whine. Then tested the Relay. To make certain it was the pump. The bike only had about 3400 Miles. Bought it new in 2012. Only had it a few months.

Not necessarily the case every single time... And it is usually several things that can go wrong with it that's why a flow chart is usually given for diagnosis.... And that seems like there are problems with every manufacturer or the parts stores at least...

Just a Side Question here. What is it with Motorcycles and Fuel Pumps?? The 2010 Yamaha had the pump replaced with only about 3400 Miles. My 2015 750 had a Recall for the pump. Thankfully I only had to replace the pump in one of my cars over the last 24 years. And hat was because the Fuel Gauge readings were erratic. A 93 Escort GT. Bought resistors at Radio Shack and tested as per repair manual.

At first that is what i thought if its covered its covered but apparently there is an American and an European Harley and they don't have to go by the same same warranty rules is what the Italian Harley told me. But once i got talked to the right people i learned that it is a false statement so i assume that the dealer was just trying to use the language barrier and my knowledge of warranty to make more money than what the warranty would pay them. (put that is my assumption)

I am in the Army stationed in Northern Italy.

Yes from my test before i brought the bike into Harley all the relays and fuses were good. I read on the forum that the kill switch was a problem contacted a few buddies and they agreed saying they had a few bikes come in for faulty switches nothing to big. I then tested it, in the off position the switch got 12.3 volts but once the switch was turned on it dropped to .03 volts. If it was a good switch it would of kept the voltage. So i brought the bike in and he turned the key on and the switch to the on position and he did not hear the fuel pump prime so he said it was just a bad pump, but it being replaced in December seemed off to me. I tried to explain the switch wasn't putting out power but once again the language barrier makes things difficult. So they are going to replace the fuel pump and then continue to diagnose the problem from there. I;m not to worried about it now because i don't have to pay for repairs. At first i was scared because i thought i was getting taken advantage of.

Well ask for a translator, or if anyone can show you in black and white where it stipulates that in the warranty expressions... Which Army? And Northern Italy?

when i bought the bike i got a warranty packet in the mail and brought that into them. But when he ran my vin # and said that the factory warranty wasn't covered anymore. But it never updated in their system. Its all fixed now and google is the best translator we have out here lol, and im in the united states army I'm a paratrooper in the 173rd. get to serve three years in italy so its not to bad

Google translate is a great app to have... I use it on occasion and it has always been true, well 90% true... Slang it doesn't cover yet...

There you go... And good **** man, I was with my beloved Corps from 2002-2010... OIF... II MEF was my last unit... I miss it everyday... Yeah, the Navy has something out there too I think... A PMO version of the Navy was there and that's what my guy does in the Navy, some type of MP...

well gents i have gotten the bike back after 500 euro later. The problem was my fault, when i installed the vance and hines fp3 and remapped the bike the computer didnt like it to much for some reason. so they factory reset the bike and did the tune themselves. But i will be getting with vance and hines about this and see if it was just a fluke or not. thank yall again for all the input and the help. Just like the military the harley family is always there for each other.

Did you use the correct map?

I had trouble the first time I used the FP3. Kept getting Server Error messages. V&H Tech told me to try a different WiFi connection. Worked later that day. Using my father Fios both times.
