Replacing spark plugs

Is it necessary to lift the tank to change the forward plug? If not, what's the trick? It looks tough.

Sorry. Need to lift it. It doesn't have to come off completely. Hard part I had was, Removing the boot without breaking.

Yep,
Had to lift the tank.
Really appreciated this Craftsman tool. My rationale for spending $20 for a tool for one job was that it was still cheaper than dealership would charge.

Magnet in the socket holds the spark plug really well and the wobble sure helped.
Getting the plug wire on was the most difficult part for me.

I apologize for responding slowly to your question.
I installed the Screamin Eagle plugs which came out this last fall. I kind of get a kick out of the fact that they fit only our bikes and the new Milwaukee 8 engines.
