2017, pinging while it warms up

Hey yall. I got my bike new and after 115 miles it started making a pinging noise while it warms up. Buddy tells me it just needs broke in but im a new rider and want to make sure shes all good to go. It sounds like the ping an engine makes after running then shutting off and its cooling. Any ideas?

My suggestion would be that is the sound of the metals, heat shields and exhaust expanding when they heat up. That is why the ping sounds like the ones you hear when it cools down.

Continue to put on the miles and just be careful of your smile, it grows wider every 100 miles or so!

I think Propnut has nailed it. I never heard this pinging on mine, but I tend to start up and immediately get rolling, thus wind drowns out any such noise.

I prefer to let the bike idle for the first minute or so, so that the cold water in the radiator has time to begin its trip around the engine. I am from a past era so still believe that a cold aluminium engine does not enjoy large chunks of throttle after start-up. Something like getting out of bed when you are on pension - it wise to take a little longer.

It's probably better to let it idle, but for the first couple of hundred miles I could only find neutral when missing a shift. I just didn't get in the habit of letting it warm up.
