Extended Warranty

My two year manufactures warranty is about to expire next month and just wondering if I should get it extended. The minimum extension is 2 years up to 5 years. The following are the prices I was quoted for each; There is also a separate tire and wheel option too but I didn't get a quote.

2 years $1029.00
3 years $1269.00
4 years $1409.00
5 years $1689.00

I have till July 18th to decide. I still 3 years of payments left. Feel free to weigh in if you like.

I would say, Go with the 3 year. Since you have 3 years worth of payments left. Might as well be covered.

I got an e-mail about my HOG Membership expiring in Sept. Not sure if I want to spend the money?? I have other Bills coming Due (Car &Motorcycle Ins) in August. DL in Sept. PO Box in Aug.

Check and see what the bike is worth right now. $1300 seems like it would be an extremely high percentage of the price of the bike new let alone 2 years old. I would probably just throw the $1300 in a savings account and use it for maintenance and repairs. Or you might just knock down your loan principle by $1300 instead.

As a disclaimer, my 750 is my first bike and I haven't had it long enough to see what maintenance will run me. I just know from experience with cars that the extended warranties are almost never going to pay off in the end. With how much the warranty is as a percentage of the retail price of the bike it seems even less likely that it would be worth it than for a car.

Well I just rolled over 16K miles today on the bike and I'm sure that the trade in value is much less than what I owe on the bike. Also, I'll be needing new tires and thats gonna be close to $600 to have the oem tires (Michelin). If I ever get another new bike, I will look into getting an extended warranty at purchase time if the price is right.
