5k Service?

Hi all. I will be coming up to the 5k Service Interval And was curious, How much your shop was charging? I asked my dealer, He told me, I forget exactly, Over $300

Thank you

I plan to just do it myself. They've already gone through at 1k and tightened up all the bolts the factory missed. $12 for a filter, and about $60 worth of synthetic oil. Then spend an afternoon getting familiar with my bike. I'm at 3300 miles now.

I was asking because I thought the price was high. Last night I was looking in the manual. I have already done most of it. I would just need to change the Oil and Filter. And Adjust the Drive Belt. And a couple of other adjustments. Drive Belt has 140-150 Ft Pounds on the rear axle nut.
I was bored one day. Greased the Jiffy stand, Handles, Pegs. Brakes? Already changed the Pads. And greased the sliders. Throttle Cable? Have to remove it to replace the Right control switches. Broke the wire when I replaced the Ignition lock.

I saw someplace maybe here, a statement was made by a Harley mechanic; that you could skip the 5K check (except for oil and filter) but make sure and get the 10K check up. I'm close to the 5K mark and I'm leaning that way. What do you think?

I think you can get away with it.I will be ,just keep an eye on things and adjust ,tighten and lube as necessary, and yeah.... DON'T skip the oil and filter change. That's just my opinion, I guess if you had the cash to splash it would be better to have a trained eye look over it.if your half way mechanically minded though,id be tempted to say 'she'll be right mate!! '

Thank you. I have almost 7k on the bike now. The Oil/Filter change was done at 5k. First time I used a Bosch D3300 Filter. So far the oil still looks clean on the stick.

I'm mechanical and have done routine maintenance on my own cars, but I'm new to motorcycles. Since I'm just not that familiar with these beasts I'm sticking with the dealer for the first several scheduled servicings. That and I'm in a deal for free tires for life or until I skip doing a scheduled service with them.
