Might be getting a Street Rod

Hi all. Sunday I went to a "Chapel" and road tested one. Seems like it had more power Off the Line. Definitely stops better than my 15 750. Seems to handle better as well. Seat Height is a little high. I am 5' 4" tall. Pedals are in a slightly different location.

Anyway Here is my Deal. They will sell me the Charcoal Denim for $8500. Give me $4500 Trade In. Problem is Negative Equity. From the Yamaha Majesty I traded. Yamaha Financing Sucks (HSBC first, Then Capital One took over) with the Compound Interest. Bastards tried to charge me Interest on a $0 Balance. I would get a 1 Year Extended Warranty. 6 year loan. Payments will increase by roughly $10 Month.

What do you think? Keep my 15 with the Mods. Or Trade? If I trade, I am removing the Lithium battery and Sumax cables. They should fit the new bike.

Harley's set to introduce 50 new models over the next five years, 100 new models in the next 10 years. Is the Street Rod worth $4,000 to you over the Street? If not, just sit back and wait. No way to know what's going to be on the market in the next few years.

If I keep the 15, Maybe I should get an Extended Warranty? 2 Years to cover me while I am making payments.

I left a $100 Deposit. Sales Manager was a bit pushy on Sunday. Started yelling at the Salesman that he wasn't doing things right. In front of me.

Nobody can make that decision for you. What I can tell you is that my rule is to never buy another vehicle till the one I have is paid off. You take such a hit as soon as you drive off the lot, if you keep trading in every few years you may never end up with a bike you actually own. My recommendation would be to put everything I could on the current bike loan and try to get it paid off before considering anything new.

I just had the opportunity to buy a BMW 2003 K1200RS from a relative for an extremely attractive price. I delayed for a few months till I could get my 2016 Street 750 paid off before I made him an offer on the BMW and bought it. While I really wanted that bike, and it was a price I couldn't pass up...I just couldn't pull the trigger when the HD loan was still out there. I was lucky enough that he hadn't sold it before I got the money rounded up, and am now having a heck of a lot of fun on that bike.

But you have to figure out what makes sense for you.

I spoke to "Pastor" Rob. He told me my 15 Street is only worth $2500. And that I should wait another year. Maybe move up to a Superlow 1200??

Extended Warranty wouldn't be a bad idea.

How much is an extended warranty on your 2015? Whatever that costs, you basically would want to compare it to the $2500 it is worth. You have to figure out how likely you would use it, and how much it would save you if you use it, as opposed to say buying the same bike used for $2500.

I decided long ago to self insure instead of buying warranties. Of all the times I was offered and declined an extended warranty I have never been in a situation where I would have actually used the warranty. Could be I am just lucky, but I know a lot of people that do the same. And I have never run across someone who was upset that they didn't take an extended warranty.

YMMV.

I too had the same idea when the Street Rod came up. I have put in all the Mods possible on my Street 750 and it performs probably as much as the Rod. The dealer was dangling a carrot. I have just covered about 6 months into my loan and I still have long ways to go. Then I thought about it and exactly as Gaijin mentioned HD will introduce another model called most probably the Street X Rod which will have some more cosmetics and hence there is no end to this game. Right now my bike is extremely nimble and fast, mind you I am driving in such stop and go traffic in India. Also my personal view is as an average user any speed beyond 90 mph is asking for trouble unless you are an adrenaline junky or into racing. Finally it is your decision and if in your gut you have the urge then go for it but then I thought the Low Rider S was a better option.

So, it's only worth $2,500, but they're willing to pay you $4,500 for it? How generous of them. You could probably sell it on Craigslist for closer to $6,000 I'd guess.

A Superlow seems (to me) to be on the opposite end of the Harley spectrum from a Street Rod. Street Rod's a cramped-over flat-bar cafe racer; the Superlow is a splayed-out cruiser with some touring accoutrements. So that has me asking this question: what is it about the Street 750 that you're dissatisfied with? Especially after all the mods you've done to presumably make it more of what you wanted?

Especially when considering something like the Sportster 1200... that's a heavier bike with ostensibly worse handling, and it's probably barely any faster than your modified 750 if at all, and you'd be giving up liquid cooling and great gas mileage in exchange for vibration and an older air-cooled design, and paying like $9,000 more for it, so -- why would that be an improvement? (I mean, maybe it's an improvement for reasons I'm not seeing, but before spending thousands of dollars you should be able to clearly articulate the reasons, IMO. Otherwise, it's like... if you've got an itch, you gotta scratch that itch. You can scratch all around it, near it, by it, whatever, but until you actually scratch the actual itch... it's still gonna itch.)

I would like to Try a 1200 Superlow. Tried a 883. Thought it was a Toy. Compared to my 750.

Saturday I am going down to get my Deposit. Need to go get my Paycheck from Aerotek today. Friday I go Grocery shopping. Never know when I am getting off. Yesterday was about 1 1/2 hours late.
