Street Rod Airbox

So I pulled the Airbox apart today in the shop and something is eating at me. Behind that mesh grill is a plastic cover with 2 tubes, the rest is a solid restrictive piece of plastic. Has anyone thought about pulling that whole plastic piece then using some adhesive to fix the mesh grill in place? Too me, it seems that it would add some airflow to a restrictive setup, both the factory air cleaner and factory filter. Please chime in, I'm curious.

It's a step in the right direction, but ultimately you'll still have a quite restrictive air box.

The only way to get the maximum improvement air flow wise, is to remove the OEM box, throw it over a hedge and fit the S&S Stealth air filter assembly. Though having done this you will need to re map the air fuel mixture.
