heated grips

Im seeing on fleabay there are multitudes of options for diy heated grips. Has anybody installed some on their street? How hard were the stock grips to get off and what kind of strategy did you use?I have gorilla armed them off of other bikes but I was hoping to save the oem grips to re install in the spring. Leathers and frxg jacket keep the body and legs warm helmet and baklava for the face, even refridgerware gloves won't keep the fingers warm. Last week at 35f I thought I had gotten frostbite on a couple finger tips but they were just nearly frozen not quite bad enough but close.Any body on here I can learn from please post up.

Hi,
I decided rather than messing with the bikes electrics, I would buy electrically heated gloves. Powered by rechargeable batteries, made by RST, £149 in the UK. They arrived this morning so I haven't tried them yet.

I have fitted hot grips to my street. They were a the common Oxford cruiser grips.
The wiring was very easy, I connected the power wire to the live side of the starter solenoid under the seat and the earth to the mounting bolt next to the solenoid.
The wires follow the main loom under the tank to the cowl, then out to the grips.
The control box is mounted on the left bar within reach of my thumb.
The cowl hides the connectors and the set up looks tidy as.
The OME grips roll off the bars easy, and can be reused.
The only modification I needed to do was to whittle the diameter of the throttle tube down to fit the hot grip.
This I did with a sharp craft knife, and patience.
The only thing you need to remember is to turn them off when you end your ride, as they are not linked into the main ignition curcit and will flatten your battery if left on..
I have used these grips on the last four bikes I have owned, I have never had a problem with them.
Have a look in my gallery pics for what the set up looks like.
