Harley Davidson Street vs Iron 883

Pick your poison

XL883N Iron 883 goes for $$7,999
Street 750 goes for $7,500

$500 price difference. You get a little bit more displacement with the Iron. Air cooled Iron vs Liquid cooled Street. Chain driven Iron vs Belt Driven Street. 5 speed iron vs 6 speed street. 573lbs iron vs 480lbs street.

Pricing on both comes very close. Hard to just decide between the two on paper or just seeing info online. I think this is a case where you'd have to see them in person and ride them.

Yea the two bikes are very similar. I think that i would have to test drive them both before I can make a decision. I was leaning more towards the 500cc Street though.

Both the Street and the Iron have belt final drive

Belts are always preferred, from bikes to cars. I never was a fan of chain driven systems unless it's old school.

Maybe I am reading it wrong. In the specs on the HD website it shows the XL883N as a chain primary drive.

2014 Harley-Davidson® XL883N Sportster® Iron 883™ | Laugerman's Harley-Davidson | York Pennsylvania

The specs could be wrong. I don't know enough about the Sportster to know.

EDIT:

Actually now that I read into the Street it also mentions it as chain driven

You are correct in that the PRIMARY is chain driven. That is inside the engine/transmission case. The FINAL drive is belt, which is from the transmission to your rear wheel sprocket.

ahh right. So it is the same between the Street and Iron then.

Both chain primary and both belt final.

Sorry.

First time harley buyer for the loss.

I found this web site on another forum and thought it might be of help for comparison.
It deals with Motorcycle Ergonomics in great detail so you can do a side by side comparison based on your physical stature to the motorcycle you choose.

Here is the link------> Motorcycle Ergonomics

I used this site to compare my Street 750 to my 04 Suzuki Savage. Based on my height and inseam. It was very close.
Here is an example of what you see on this website listed above after adding your info...
