New Competition

It was bound to happen...

Honda just announced their new 2017 300 and 500 Rebel's. the 500 Rebel is clearly marketed as going after the Street 500. It may be an inline twin, but it packs some punch. Only 408 lbs. with a full tank, and over 44 horsepower. They're also starting to go after one of the marketing ploys of H-D, being that they now produce a good basic bike and then advertise "make it your own" with accessories and customization. This scoot will be taking some potential buyers from the Street 500/750, the Kawi Versys. and maybe even the Sportsters and Bolts. If you look at all the advertising (on the Powersports website) you see the "Urban Chic" tone much like H-D is using for the Street. This will be available in the spring, so it will be interesting to see how the market reacts. I hope that the MoCo is aware.
BTW - MSRP is $5995.

Ow!

Honda makes great bikes and cars, but this doesn't surprise me one bit as the Shadow series is a big let down, I drove several and never had me at the edge of my seat literally like the Street 750 did... Just like the marketing of Dark Custom with the #1 and Skull logos etc etc, yeah this is going to be interesting, as HD only made a 750/500, never a 300... I wish they did then I could get my teenage daughter one, she'd love it... And yeah, 5995 is way cheaper than the 500 from the show room... Tax, title, fees etc it'll still be cheaper than ours... That inline twin is going to be something to see and hear though...

both are bikes, both look nice, but with absolutely different souls...
like the colors green and red - both are beauty but somebody uniquely much prefer red than green and vv

With the introduction of the Rebel 500, Honda will also be eliminating 2 options to the CTX700 line. The N (or Naked) model is not announced for 2017 at all. And the CTX700 with Fairing will only be available with the DCT(Dual Clutch 6 speed auto trans) and ABS brakes. So direct competition to the Street 750 will be one model less this year. The Shadow really can't be classified as competition to the Street 750. It's an old design, and way down on power. Why it's still in their lineup is a mystery.

Of course but everyone always throws that Bike around when doing reviews... I even rode 2 before I finally settled on the 750, and yeah, right there with you... Drum brakes on a 2015? Seriously? That's what threw me off too besides the lack in power and being a 5 Speed....
