Carrying a baby on a motorcycle

Does anyone carry their toddlers on motorcyles? If yes how and what age is suitable?

In India is normally not an issue with the Law but I was thinking about the safety of the child.

Never!

I know in some countries its the only mode of transportation, and you'll see a whole family on a bike. I would never take an infant, that can't care for themselves, in the event that something happened while riding. You get hit, or have to take a quick evasive maneuver, and they can't hold on, or get dumped. I'd be devastated if anything happened to my kids, and they're 13 & 16. I will not take them on my bikes ........at all!

Remember, you could be the safest rider, BUT, it's always about the "other guy". Are you willing to live with the consequences?

My kids grew up with us riding motorcycles, but that was in a sidecar. Many years ago my wife and I saw a couple ride by our motorcycle shop on separate bikes, but the man had a car seat with infant in it strapped to his sissy bar. They ended up stopping in a little while later, and boy did my lovely bride chew there asses out. HA!

i often see preschool-aged children as passengers (and not wearing any helmets) on the sub-200cc motorcycles here in Philippines. I'd be more alarmed to see the same scenario out on the expressways (where only 400cc or higher bikes are required)

Ok, point taken no infants on motorcycles. but what then is the appropriate age for kids to start riding a motorcycle as a pillion?

Guess will have to get a side car for my Street.

physically, as long as their feet can rest on the passenger pegs and arms are long enough to clasp hands around the driver.

when i lived in USA, the youngest motorcycle passenger i noticed was a third grade student

That would put them at 8 or 9 years old. A far cry from an "infant".
Still, IMHO, too young. I won't ride with my 13 year old on the back of my "cruiser", let alone on the "Street".

Sorry, I care for my kids too much, should something happen.

My kids and now grandson rode at the age of six with me on two wheels. I did custom make a set of higher mounted pegs for them. They need to reach the pegs and have something good to hang on with their hands. If you have a sidecar I would say any age. My dog a German Shepherd started riding in the sidecar at ten months and love it. :-)

The age where you don't feel the need to ask. Seriously just use your brain and weigh the assessment of risk.

....what age do you feel a higher risk of death by vehicular accident is appropriate.
