Polishing Plastic Speed Screen

So the Speed Screen (headlight fairing) on my Street 500 has acquired a few scratches ... some of these scratches are a little too deep to polish out with a polishing paste/cream.

First does anyone know what material the Speed Screen is made from ? Acrylic ? Poly-carbonate ?

And secondly does anyone know of a method for removing scratches and restoring the plastic to its original surface finish ?
