Lowering forks

Has anyone lowered the front forks on their street? Looking to get some bigger wheels and lower the front like the one pictured here:

You could cut the springs but that will stiffen the ride, as odd as that seems. That will of course lessen the just barely adequate travel too. It just depends on what your willing to do to achieve your goals. Make sure nothing hits when the travel is bottomed out. I assume your going for the modern street tracker type look?
