Since HD now offers ABS on the sportster, I wonder if they will on the Street? Europe is going to mandate it so if they want to compete in that market they will need it and would be ahead of the game to offer it.

I think it's a must. If it wont be available for the u.s. right away it will be just a matter of time. Maybe 6-12 months after the original production date. Europe should be getting them right away.

How much more can we expect to pay for an ABS model?

It's hard to say if it will be launched with ABS.
But I am confident it will be available eventually if not right away.

Many riders are demanding ABS now so manufacturers need to respond to that.

It is a safety feature therefore is easily justified.

They could make abs an option, just like they do on many models. I don't see why they couldn't do that now. I'd pay the extra $800 or whatever it is, for something that could save my life. Targeting a bike for younger/newer riders seems like abs would be an option even before the dinosaur bikes get it.

That is a possiblity I can see happening. It makes sense to throw in more option in hopes of grabbing more money.. well for harley.

Piaggio, Bergman, Suzuki and Honda all make scooters with ABS, several with less than 500cc power. Maybe a 500cc is not so far fetched. Who'd have believed HD would make a sub-900cc liquid cooled bike 2 years ago?
Before the boom in more compact fuel efficient cars and bikes I wouldn't have thought this would happen, but if you asked me last year I wouldn't be surprised at all, it just seems like a natural thing to do.

The option I understand does not exists. It should though since it helps with disc breaks , I for one would have paid for ABS during booking itself. No compromise on safety since I'm relatively inexperienced but sad to know the option doesn't exists.
