Hmmm, something doesn't sound right here. I just read your post and then went and measured my mirrors. The outside measurement is 33". Where are you losing the width ?
Have you not installed the extensions ?

No extensions nor will I need them. My Street 750 has seen it's last mile as a stock motorcycle and when reborn will have new fork, tire, wheel, new handlebars, new controls and new mirrors.
