Very glad to have found this forum. I just turned 60 and retired at 58. Lived most of my life in the Seattle/Tacoma area in Washington State. Worked the last 5+ years of my working life at Destination Harley-Davidson in Tacoma, wa. I worked in parts. Not at the front counter, but at the "parts window", which was keeping the flow of parts for our service department.

I started riding at 8 and have never been with a motorcycle since. I did have to sell my 2006 XL883 when we moved due to shipping costs. Many of my bikes over the years have been dual sports. I have owned 2 Sportsters. The 2006 and a 1984 XLX1000. Also owned a 2007 Royal Enfield Bullet for a few years.

I am very interested in the new Street models. Mostly the 500. I think that bike would make a great island bike for solo riding.

I am impatiently waiting for some road tests.

I live near Hilo. They used to have an HD dealer there before we moved here, but they closed. So the only dealer on the island is in Kona. That's quite a ways from us. Yet, I see lots of HD's riding around. Also scooters/mopeds are very popular here. Gas prices are very high here.

I think the Streets will sell well everywhere. Realisitically, the 500 would be plenty of bike here. We have no freeways. The highways are 50-55 mph. Guess I better find out how many the Kona dealer is going to order. I have to go see one, and I would possibly buy one also. I'd get the 500, as we don't ride two up any more.

Welcome to the forum

The lightweight and slightly smaller size of the Street would be very suitable for the Islands. In Hawaii you don't need a large cruiser. Like you said. There are no freeways! Just cruising along streets. You should drop your name by the dealer to let them know you are interested.

I'm sure you aren't the only one who is also thinking the Street would be a nice choice for the islands :)

Now I can see why streets would be good for Hilo and all of the island.
But im sure there will always be those guys that must have the biggest CC's on the island! I can't lie, i would be one of those, too bad my wallet wont support it right now.

I have not seen any info on the fuel mileage for the Streets, but a lot of Sportster 883 riders reportedly get 60-70 mpg. Pretty impressive for an engine of that displacement.

Hey birdmove,
I'm new here also. I live in just south of your old stomping ground here in Vancouver, WA USA.

I was on the Big Island just a year ago for two weeks touring and getting my last 50th state to ride my motorcycle in. I rode all the way around the island and down to South Point. I really liked the weather in Hilo the best.

I own three Harleys and two Royal Enfields I also have fifteen Moto Guzzis in my stable. Old ones from 1938 to 2003.

I rode a 2007 Royal Enfield for 2-3 years before selling it. I enjoyed that bike.
They are a blast to ride with all kinds of character. I have a 2010 Bullet and a 2007 Electra I’m thinking of making into a bobber. Every time I ride one people always ask about it and thumbs up nice bike. They are really a nice size at only 410 lbs. and not bad two-up ridding also that is if you are not in a hurry. They are a lot like my Guzzi singles but I can still get spares for it.
