Broken Mirror

Hi everyone!

This is undoubtedly a newbie question, but I figured it better to start here before taking it into the shop for something silly.

My right bar mirror broke on my 750 and I’m trying to replace it. I ordered a new mirror but I can't get it to stay attached to the handlebar. The mirror matches exactly what came off of my bike, but when I tighten the hex screw at the end of the mirror into the handlebar, the mirror will just slide back out. It's as if the screw isn't long enough or the expander isn't expanding far enough for the mirror to stay firmly attached.

Has anyone else run into this? How did you fix?

I tried wrapping a rubber tube around the expander, but it was a bit too large to fit inside the handlebar.

Thanks for the help in advance.

That's the correct mirror for a Street Rod 750. Does the bike still have the original flat handlebars or have they been changed for something else?

Thank you for the response! Yeah, I believe the handlebars are stock.
Be sure the tab on the mirror slides into the slot visible on the inside of the handlebar end. That has to be fully engaged in the slot before tightening. Position the vertical stem of the new mirror to match the mirror on the left side. Use a 4mm Allen wrench to tighten the bolt. It has to be tightened more than you would think is normal for that size of bolt. I was surprised how much torque is on those factory installed mirrors. If you ever have to remove another one, don't unscrew the 4mm bolt more that 3 complete turns or the end of that tube will come off inside the handlebar. Good luck getting that out!
