Does anyone else get blowby from the crankcase vent? My oil level is slightly below the full mark and still get oil in the intake from the crankcase vent tube. The bike has almost 6,000 miles and it's been doing that since I bought it new. I put in a catch can from V-Twin Manufacturing in the meantime while I'm researching for a fix (see photo). I'm open to suggestions..

I would say it is probably normal. I can smell it while riding at times. Mine has a V&H Intake kit. Now has 9200 Miles. My Salesman told me its due to the High Compression. I am surprised HD didn't put an Oil/Air Separator on.

Thanks for the reply. I was afraid that it may be normal for these motors. Like you said, it has to have a separator. The current set up is not ideal. It allows oil to get in the intake, whereby it could create several detrimental problems down the road.

What would this smell like while riding? Just curious, I recently had the engine cut out while riding as if the fuel was shut off, but reading this made me think maybe excess blow by threw off the A/F ratio.

Mine is a 16 so I am not sure about the fuel pump. Not to derail your thread, but basically I think it was because I was below half a tank and accelerated from a stop, and the engine cut out. No engine light. Of course, once the engine went out the oil pressure light came on since it was off. But it started right up afterwards. My thought with this thread was that perhaps excessive blow by caused it to cut out. Either way, I'll be keeping my "nose out" for an oily smell. I've never heard of using catch cans on bikes until this thread, I thought it was only useful for DI or FI engines in cars. Now I know.
