I was out and about last week and came to a stop, the weather was a little warm but not boiling, I'm in California. As I was at the stop, suddenly I heard a sort of wining sound but wasn't sure where it was coming from, since I had my helmet on , I really couldn't tell if it was me or the car in front of me . At first I thought it was the car in front of me because as the light changed and it moved away from me, the sound disappeared but then later as I got closer to home some 5 miles later, it re-appeared when I was riding down a street alone. Could this be the cooling fan kicking in or should I have it checked out. The bike is new 2016 with only 97.3 miles on it right now ? I'm taking it out to see if it reappears so I can record it on my phone and take to the guys at my local dealer. Thanks. Oh one more question.
What does the G in XG stand for, I can't find G on any designation list. Thanks again.

Mine started to make that noise as SOON as I installed the V&H Intake.......

Part of the process with the upgraded hi flow intake.

So it is the fan ? My first Harley and water cooled bike. I'm an old Kawasaki air cooled rider, just getting back into riding after 30+ years away. Thanks.

by the way you described it, that's what it sounds like to me. Next time it happens, try to see if you feel hot air blowing on you. That's the one downfall I have found about our bikes is when you're riding on a 90+ degree day, and get stuck at a light. That fan keeps you motor cool, and in turn blows all that hot air from the motor right into your lap, chest and face. And is the main reason why I wear a half helmet in the summer.

Yeah, that cooling fan on our bikes sounds like a maniacal dentists drill. Scared the excrement out of me the first time it kicked on at a stop light LOL.
