I have been stalking this group for a month or two. I guess its time for my introduction. I just signed up for the HD new riders classes. I have never owned a motorcycle before. If i pass and like it i'm planning on getting the white 2018 Street rod. I have been looking into getting a bike for a few months now. Looked at sport bikes, then contemplated getting a dual sport, but recently found the Street Rod and knew that it was the one for me.

Welcome to the forum!

There will be a lot of good information in the new rider class. Pay special attention to the low speed, close quarters maneuvering. Most of the guys I talk to say that's the part of riding that gives them the most trouble. Going straight down the highway takes care of itself.

I would encourage you to get on a bike as soon as you can after taking the course. I took it in late 2014 with no experience and was doing quite well by the end of the course. Then I didn't get on a bike again until February of 2017. It made for some real tense first couple of rides as I had forgotten way more than I remembered from the course.

Since you signed up for the HD new riders class, it will be taught on xg500's. That's going to be about as close as you can get to experiencing a Street Rod, the bike you want, before actually buying the Street Rod. That is unless your dealer let's you take a somewhat lengthy test ride or a buddy has one you can borrow one from. That will be handy. My MSF class used V-Star 250's, which are nice little bikes but a different riding position than the xg750.
