I now have had my Street 750 for almost a month and wonder if what I am experiencing is common. Unless I ride the clutch significantly, the bike will jerk off the starting line. This could be a problem is some circumstances. Low speed handling is somewhat difficult, not because of weight, but because the handlebar control is jerky -- I think this is kind of like an extremely raked chopper feels like. NOTE #1 : I feel more comfortable maneuvering my 850 lb Victory Cross Country is a close area (like my carport). NOTE #2 : I use to own a 1996 Kawasaki Vulcan 750 which spec-wize is almost identical to the Street 750 in weight, engine power, and wheelbase. I did not experience the kind of problems with it that I do with the Street 750. I will note the controls on the Vulcan where more forward than the standard Street 750.

my sense of balance kept both my v-rod and street in the friction zone for speeds below 8-9mph or i feel like the bike will zip away on me. v-rod has more rake and longer wheelbase, making it harder to maneuver in a parking lot compared to the street750

if street handlebar seems to catch something, check the front brake line. my streets' front brake line pushes up against the radiator cover when steering to the left, it is a small but noticeable feedback when i am practicing uturns & figure8s

I have read in a previous thread that when changing the hand grips to aftermarket ones that have a bigger outside diameter, the throttle response is more predictable. On the standard setup I also experience the jerky response, more noticeable at a low speed.

I installed kuryakyn ISO grips

I installed Kuryakyn Black ISO grips on my 2016 Street 750, because I was getting a lot of hand buzz during my initial break-in period. They made a big difference in re-leaving the hand buzz, and controlling the jerkiness from the low RPM torque.

My bike was very jerky at low speeds. I changed the grips and my stock throttle tube for an aftermarket. I get much smoother response now

I'm actually very glad to hear this. I just bought a used 2015 with low miles and I was trying to figure out if there was something wrong with it. I don't have much experience and I was trying to practice (while still at the dealer) and noticed it is very hard to control at low speed. It doesn't like being in 1st gear at all. I wasn't sure if it was just me or the bike. It also doesn't help with low speed maneuverability that the previous owner installed drag bars, which I seem to have to fight. I'm glad something as simple as handgrips (which I was going to swap out anyway) can possibly make a difference.

Wow thanks that's really informative I thought it was me, my previous bike was a Moto Guzzi V7 Classic which was smooth but very stiff clutch so tiring to sit in traffic although the Street was lighter on the clutch it is as you say hard to handle being notchy in 1st, I'll take your suggestion and change up sooner and see if that helps!

I think the drive ratios are generally too low. 1st is nearly useless. I hope someday an aftermarket gearing option, for instance a smaller rear pulley/sprocket and matching belt, will be available. So at highway speed it revs lower and so 1st gear would be useful. I adjusted my clutch cable at the bar so there's at least some play. It's sloppier than I'd like but gives my left hand a break between all or nothing, in first.

I would agree fully 1st gear is pretty much no use at all. I find my 750 very responsive and super easy to control using 2nd gear and keeping the clutch in the friction zone using higher revs and rear break control. slow riding in 1st becomes very jerky and difficult to control. I think the key is just keeping the revs up slightly. I can manoeuvre to a virtual stand still using this method and with the revs high when you need to pick up you can roll out and release the clutch fully and in to 3rd,
