Showed up in my Street 750 feed....

Pune Dealership reports 100 bookings in 5 weeks

The Two Rivers Harley-Davidson showroom has received about 100 bookings for Harley Davidson Street 750. A booking as of today warrants delivery in September. And that’s just the speed at which Street 750 is selling at a single dealership. At present, Harley-Davidson India operates through 13 dealers here.
I wonder what kind of volume the other 12 stores are seeing. I mean if each of them has booked 100 orders since (unlikely, but you see the picture I'm trying to paint you :D)

To be honest, I think the American launch is going to be hard pressed to show similar exuberance...

Pune will definitely be on the higher side , average Imo is around 70 max. Kolkata dealer for example was empty both times I visited(afternoon/weekend). Btw what is the source because this is alarming news , september is unacceptable when they are at the moment promising june delivery. Red colour might result in august.

A competent assembly chain can easily roll out thousands if not more in 3 months and believe me , the craze is not so high that suddenly thousand harleys will sale in 1 month. So far they have managed 4000 in 3 years and the street is by no stretch of imagination a cheap/budget motorcycle. The reason for creating artificial delay is customers are charged the rate during delivery and there is a healthy chance price might be hiked 6 months later and suddenly everyone is receiving their bike at an increased tarrif.

Indians are going crazy for it!
there is a strong reason for that , our silly gvt. has a rule in place that effectively prohibits import of bikes(complete unit , one can import the knock down kit and assemble it here) under 800cc to protect/promote localised manufacturers(ducati found a way around it for the monster 696 , no idea how though the indian agent for ducati is in jail now ).
For this reason so far , we had either bikes under 300cc(no one bothered manufacturing anything over that , recently ktm arrived with the 390 and it is a massive hit) or around the litre class(imported/assembled locally) with the middle class being a void and completely dominated by enfield with their 500cc bikes. Now suddenly we have a 750cc v-twin from a very famous brand which as is stands is competing in the market unchallenged hence the excitement.

wow.. that is ALOT of bookings

Harley must be very happy with that
I wonder what the allocation of Street 750's each dealer will be getting? I mean you have to figure the 98th, 99th and 100th from both those stores are going to be waiting well into 2015 hehehehhh.

Would any of you guys on the ground over there happen to know what the production numbers are going to be like per month or per year?

Good question, i really wonder what it will be. Can't even begin to guess what it will be like cause i'll either guess too low or too high.
They are now giving a september timeline for expected delivery . My gut feeling is they will delay it even more artificially .

SO September delivery even for bookings done on 1st March?
I booked mine from Mumbai on the 7th of March. That is exactly on the 7th day of the booking. I was told that they have been averaging around 40 bookings a day. My delivery date at present is on 14th September as the dealer would get to deliver not more than 45-50 bikes a month.
This may sound like crazy high number of bookings but then what else are you going to buy at this cost? Street 750 makes perfect sense to me.

Well each dealership will be allotted no more than 30 Street 750's a month.
Since they have 13 dealerships that means 390/month for domestic market.
Once the smaller towns have exhausted their bookings, those allotment will be transfered to cities with higher bookings (Mumbai, Pune, etc) to fulfil their deliveries.

I think they should deliver it quicker than promised...
Because they said test ride Streets coming in mid-April, they are already here in Mid-March at various dealerships.

They have probably adopted the expectation management strategy, where the promise low and deliver high. ;) :p fingers crossed (hoping I get mine before MAY)

No I think 1st day booking will be delivered by june , I was told september earliest after I called them 2 days back for booking now . But the way he stressed the word 'earliest' suggested good chance of it being delayed further. I think you are safe though.
SO seeing this unreal demand makes me think Harley may have to stagger the American release. I mean if they're booking 40-50 per day and are backed up until september you have to figure theres going to be quite the squeeze on components sent over to KC.

I wonder if NA is going to see the Street 500 first and then the 750 once global demand tapers off?
In Bangalore showroom when I checked they advised me that delivery ll start from May

Why? KC is a separate production facility for the North American market. They are not sourcing from India.

Why? The KC plant is a separate manufacturing facility for the North American market. They aren't sourcing from India. In any event, the bike isn't going to be a strong seller in the US. It might even sell in lower numbers than the V-Rod.

I think thats something a lot of people are forgetting, at least we have production going on in the U.S. which still keeps it a true american HD.

Btw, Harley has been building them since last year. They probably have the great majority of the 2014 model run built and in the crate ready for shipment. My 2007 Street Rod was manufactured in May of 2006.
