Updates after long time.

Motorcycle is doing fine. Had first breakdown, more on that later. Odo currently stands at 17350kms.
Overall fuel economy stands at 22.8kmpl

First Breakdown
I was on my way to office in the morning. Just before entering the premises, I felt some leak. Looked down and wassurprised to see liquid dripping. Initially I thought it must be fuel as it was directly below fuel tank and was scared motorcycle might be on fire but it wasn't smelling gasoline. It was the coolant. Called the RSA which came promptly in an hour. Diagnosis by Harley was that clamp holding the coolant inlet gave away(this is first case) and was given after replacing the clamp.

Apart from this one breakdown, ownership has been fuss free. Starts always at the first crank, engine is as lovely as day one and always brings a smile on your face.

Brakes Upgrade

Harley Street in India is very famous for its brakes or the lack of it. There are lots of protests going on in different parts of the country. Front is spongy. Rear is very weak, has too much travel ans stops acting are riding for quite some time (plus hard compound tyres).
Brake upgrade included acouple of changes
- changing front and rear master cylinder
- use steel braided lines for front and rear
- relocate rear master cylinder away from exhaust
- change pads to EBC semi sintered.
Braking has tremendously improved, should have been this way ideally from factory. Will post pics later

we kinda bought ours on a whim, looks like you guys are using these bikes and riding them hard & long

I changed master cylinders to that on Royal Enfield Himalayan. It seems better than what Harley offered.
Which model is yours? If its 2017, then it has better brakes. If you are in US, you have better tyres too.

what do you mean by "- relocate rear master cylinder away from exhaust "?..like could you post a pic of it.. i have changed mine to that of apache 180's rear master cylinder..better than the stock..but still not much results..it fades way too quickly, as in if u use the rear multiple times in a row, it feels like as if ur pushing the pedal and the pads are just rubbing against the disc without the slightest impact ..like the brakes have failed..

How about the himalayan's master cylinder? did it need any modification to get it attached?
To which calipers have u changed to?

Have tried using different Pads? What you're describing sounds like Brake Fade. EBC makes some good pads. I have the FA643V Front and Rear on my 15. With the weight of my accessories it stops better.


Also, Measure the Rotor Thickness.

Yups its definetly brake fade..havent used ebs pads on my rear but the funny thing is whenevr i get my pads changed they are brembo sintered ones from the showroom..still that happens..now i am planning to change my master cylinder to that of royal enfield himalayans rear master cylinder (bybre) as mentioned, sintered lines and a total upgrade to 16’s big rear rotor and 16’s caliper.. and maybe upgrade the brake fluid to 660 racing brake fluid which as they adverstise has a higher boiling point.. dont know whether it will work or not..any thoughts or input on this helpful

Extremely sorry for the delay in replying. I will post pictures later regarding relocation. For reference, you can check 2014 street rear master cylinder placement vs 2016/2017 rear master cylinder. The one in 2014 is very close to the exhaust which causes it to heat up very quickly causing brake fade.

Front brakes have braided lines and master cylinder from royal enfield Himalayan

Rear master cylinder is relocated inside fuse box. Previously it was placed too close to exhaust causing it heat up quickly.

Other than that, I have EBC semi sintered brake pads. These are also far better than stock.

I have also changed tyres. Front michelin pilot street radial 110/70/17. These are much softer than stock MRF and provide better grip throughout. Rear is MRF Zapper Vyde, same size as stock. These also softer than original apper tyres

I have also added Fego air seat. Quality is good, air doesn't leak but I am sliding forward everytime I brake. It should work well for a scooped seat rather than a flat one that I have.


National cycle windshield helps a lot on the highway rides. Can cruise at higher speeds due to reduced windblasts even though the wind is deflected to the helmet area. Helmet with better sound insulation should help

I had actually wanted updates and pictures regarding the mods - windshield, auxiliary lights (DIY stuff). But I had met with an accident. Buffalo suddenly appeared from the bushes on the highway. I did recover in few weeks but my bike took close to 5 months to recover (Thanks to Harley's policy of providing a new meter console).
The bike is still with me, will post my updates in later posts.

It's great to hear that you are OK after an accident like that, and also good to hear that the bike could be repaired.

Wildlife and domesticated livestock that sometimes gets free onto the road is a serious hazard for all motorists, but motorcyclists are particularly vulnerable to being injured or killed. I don't relish the idea of finding myself lying on the road alongside a large, injured, scared and possibly angry animal. It probably wouldn't hurt for everybody to review an article on avoiding wildlife collisions from time to time. Example

We have hedges in the middle of the highway. It helps in blocking the oncoming headlight glare at night but one can have surprises - cattle (grazing), dog, sometimes people.

Some of our southern states do something similar on divided highways, although the median strip is normally a ditch instead of raised up. The northern states tend to keep the median strip mostly clear of bushes to prevent snow drifts on the highway. Sometimes the lanes will engineers will spread the lanes further apart and the median will grow up into a small woods, often teaming with wildlife.

I have been on the interstates where the lanes are separated by ditches. Here the lanes are quite far away so that headlight from the opposite direction does not hinder driving. The ditches also prevent the vehicles from opposite direction enter the other side thereby preventing head-on collision which is very much possible with the divider/median setup that we have.

Few modifications done in the last month
  • New rear tyre - Finding a 15" inch tyre is like a treasure hunt. There is just one tyre manufacturer (MRF) that makes tyres for Harley. The only model available after checking a couple of dealers, only one option is available. I decided to go with it since the rear tyre was bald and needed an immediate replacement. The tyre looks a bit like a car tyre but softer than expected. Hope it runs at least 10k km. Immediate improvement noticed are rear sits a bit higher and also it is much easier to change directions (mostly the previous tyre had worn out and flattened). This has a rating of 67H which should be more than enough for Street 750.

  • Changed the front brake lines to the ones from HEL. Older Street 750s came with rubber lines which expand a lot. With the HEL lines, brakes feel a lot firmer.
