It is a tradition for many motorcycle riders to take a ride on New Year's Day to welcome in the New Year. I've done this in all weather conditions including snow on the ground (but didn't go very far LOL). I thought I'd kick off a thread on it to see who plans on following this tradition and where we can later post a picture of us with our motorcycle out and about on New Year's Day.

I will certainly be riding on New Year's Day come sun, rain, sleet or snow.

This sounds good, the long range weather forecast does not go out that far but I expect it to be in the mid 50's. I will contact my group of friends and go out, hope to have a picture.

I'm up for it too... hopefully a longer drive since the weather is bound to be cool here in India

I will be out there, my group name of the ride is "Do You have the Gut", the chapter of HOG that I am part of call it the Polar Bear Ride. I will be doing the Do You have the Gut ride. Will post pictures.

A lot of HOG chapters in the US refer to it as the "Polar Bear Ride" which obviously isn't applicable to those living in the Southern Hemisphere. LOL

This is not just a tradition with Harley riders though as I know of many other riders that also make this traditional ride regardless of what type of motorcycle they own.

I don't know about riding here in South East Wisconsin on New Year's Eve but I can tell you I''ve seen a few riders today on Xmas Eve. Temp here is near 40 degrees and the forecast is for snow. Once the salt coats the roadways here, most of us just put the bikes away.

I would LOVE to ride today since it is in the 40s or 50s. But I like my bike too much to get road salt all over it. Road salt = rust and corrosion. Throw in the fact that I got a new helmet for Christmas, and you can probably imagine how anxious I am to go for a cruise. My bike has been parked for a couple months already since winter came early again this year.
I am afraid I won't be riding on New Year's day.

Salt does suck but a really good hose-down after a ride will remove it. Don't spare the water.

Finally getting my 10-day forecast and it promises to be sunny on January 1st. Of course this is the Seattle area which means the 10-day forecast is about as reliable as the engine in a 1953 Chevy with half-a-million miles on it.

Even though I bought new long-johns yesterday the 28F temperature when I rode out this morning was still very cold.

Me and my group was out there, got about 100 miles in that day, which is a good thing, because today (6 Jan 15) there is snow on the ground:(
