Hey all,

Wanted to see if anyone has been able to find a youtube video walking through how to change the oil on the Street. I've seen similar videos for other Harleys, nothing for the Street yet. Would love to learn how to do it on my own.

I dont know about everyone else but I am starting to feel worked over almost everytime I walk into the Harley dealer. Some of the nicest people there, but man they try to suck every dollar out of you. My first service was approaching $300, I was under the wrong impression that they sort of gave you a break on your 1K service, if it wasn't free I thought it wouldnt be much. Wrong.

I bought my backrest from the dealer, went and asked for the luggage rack combo, the guy quoted me $190 for everything (prices arent in the catalouge). I'm thinking wow, thats not bad, better than I was expecting. I go to pick it up, get home, and realize the main component is not there- the luggage rack peice that attaches to the bike. I head back to the dealer and they're like oh you didnt order that part, thats another $150. Really? Why would I order a backrest but not the main peice that attaches to the bike? Not only that but I clearly told the guy behind the counter I wanted all the components.

I like the atmosphere in the dealership but suffice it to say, I'll be going elsewhere in the future for parts/accessories/maintenance.

If you're not mechanically inclined I suggest you do take it for in for the first 1,000 miles oil change. Yes it's $300, but they check over the bike and make adjustments as needed. (belt, clutch/throttle cables, etc) After that you're more than welcome to do the oil changes, just make sure you keep receipts and log the date and miles in your owner manual for warranty purposes. I believe there's actually directions in the owners manual on how to change the oil. If you don't have one you can go to the Harley website, go to owners/owners manual and type in your vin.

Good tip, I think they call that an oil change service since it's not just oil but a whole host of things being included.

Next time just ask what it costs just for oil and filter change only. If dealership can't do that, find another that will do just an oil and filter change.

An oil change should cost .4 hours and cost of the oil ,filter and supplies, its pretty simple actually , remove the radiator cover-2 4mm screws in front unscrew the filter 65 mm 14 flat filter wrench I believe unscrew the 17 mm bolt and voila your in business. Get the service manual and do them all yourself except the 30 k service as the valves need to be checked and adjusted as necessary, we dont actually adjust steering head bearings or belts if they are still within factory specs but will adjust them if they are out of spec during those services.

This may sound Stupid. But is the Oil Change done on the Side Stand? Or on a Center Stand/Lift? My 2010 Majesty is done on the Center Stand. Reason I am asking. And just for reference, What Grade Oil? I looked at the bottle of HD Synthetic, Didn't specify SAE. Is it SJ or Higher?

I have owned a ,lot of Harley's in my life. The Street 750 is the only one I could pull one plug change every thing . Change oil filter and never spill a drop. I could do the service in a suit and tie before church and not get dirty.

HD backrest

Riley920, I can assure you the Harley Tax is higher in India. I wanted to buy a backrest with Luggage rack from the dealer. They've quoted a price of Rs 34000(Indian Rupees) for the part, so equivalent to USD 523( Labour extra I think). Anyway I'm now looking for backrest on Amazon.

I ordered a luggage rack for my Street 500 and it came w/o the screws to mount it. Really?

Yes, it's shockingly expensive to install the luggage rack and sissy bar on these bikes. H-D expects you to install the Docking Hardware for Detachable Two-Up Luggage Rack, which makes it easier to take the rack off again. To be honest, I would just as soon use simple bolts. I don't think I've ever removed the luggage rack and sissy bar since they were installed.
