May I suggest getting an engine guard. I had my bike go over on me cause I though I had it in neutral. Embarrassing to say the least. But like the others said take a safety rider's course. It was required in my state before I could get a Motorcycle endorsement on my license and in addition to take ride the bike to get use to the feel. Test the brakes both front and rear. It is how I gained confidence on my Harley. I was absent from riding motorcycles for 35 years before I rode again.

My opinion is just take your time and watch your surroundings and road conditions and you will gain experience as well as confidence in your riding ability. Ride safe my friend
