Street 500 in Indy

Just received a call from the Harley dealer informing me they were unloading a 500 as we were talking. He said they would have it prepped and I could come take a look. It is a black one and if if I go with a Street I'd want a red one but at least I can see one in person. No mention if I could ride it though. Might just throw the helmet in the Jeep just in case.

YEA do it! bbally was saying most of the dealers are getting the 500s first and then prepping them to go out to Riders Edge, but before they get neutered they will be offered for demo rides. Mind you that could of been only in his backyard, but hey they can't say no if you don't ask ;)

Ride before the neutering! You will like the machine.... then envision 35 percent more power!!!!:D

Don't want to get to deep into this as I've been keeping my eyes open for a good deal on a VLX600 too. I've got one I'm seriously looking at, an '06 with 2000 miles on it. I do like the Street though...

How are they neutering them? You mean they detune them for the riders program?

Not a detune, the thing stays tuned, it has to for EPA emission requirements. They flash it so it will not go above 3200 RPM in first, second, and third gear. So if you roll WOT you still only go to 3200 (Might be 3500) and then it starts to drop out the spark.

Neuter (To takes the balls off) With the flash of the ecm, they take the balls out of the bike for the first three gears.

One little test pilot can't hurt, unless you're worried about falling head over heals in lust ;)

Exactly....:D Love the red one! It's storming here so a test ride is probably not in the cards today anyway. Other "problem" is I could/can pick up the VLX for about half what the Street costs. Another thing, the VLX600 is rated horsepower wise about the same as the Street 750.

Even with the neutering I'd still give her a run. I mean if there was one in front of me why not.

not bad at all!
and if you really want to you can always use some of the money you saved for modifications!

I'm really torn between to two. On one hand Honda is as reliable a bike as can be found from my experience of owning several and I like the look and size of the VLX. On the hand I really like the direction HD is attempting to go with the Street and would like to have a hand so to speak in helping them do that. I really like the Street line of bikes!

We had a couple of tornado's go thru the Indianapolis area this afternoon. One in Speedway, and one in Plainfield... where the Harley dealer is located, and the severe weather doesn't appear to be over yet. I'll wait until tomorrow to head on over there.
We'll keep us updated on your decision. Both are nice but for I me I would want new. Just my opinion.

it really is a tough call, i think you really need to look into it all in detail and see what you want, what you need and every little thing that factors into it all and go from their, at least that way you may have no regrets in the end

No not yet. Got tied up at work this afternoon:mad:. The motorcycle god's are not smiling on me right now. Tornado's yesterday, tied up at work this afternoon...

Hopefully I can break free tomorrow afternoon and run out there.

I think that was in Speedway, not sure though. Either there or Plainfield. That storm kind of popped up out of nowhere. It was headed toward where I work but turned a little south and passed by us. It still got nasty here at work though.
wow that's brutal, hopefully no one was in the home at the time.
Well... to give an update, I ended up going with the Honda Shadow VLX600. It's a silver deluxe model with only 2016 miles on it. I'm waiting for the out of state dealer to call today and finalize everything. They are delivering a boat to New York and will be coming thru Indy on Monday. I should have the bike then.

I will do with this bike what I did with the Rebel. I paid it off 3 years ahead of schedule. Who knows, I still like the Street but couldn't justify (read wife) spending that much money right now.

This isn't the exact bike but it looks just like this one other than it does have a sissybar and a HUGE windshield on it. Needless to say the windshield will come off as soon as I wheel it into the garage. I'll replace it with a Flyscreen.
