Has anyone had this service performed from a dealer? If so, how much was it, and do you consider it worth it? Like most of you, I usually prefer to do my own maintenance on my cars etc. but I can see value in this since I just bought a preowned 2017 with ABS (722 miles) that I have no history on since the original owner traded it to the dealer. Thoughts?

I realise you are in USA. In UK my service cost £247 - I believe the only things they actually changed were the oil filter and oil. My bike had done 984 miles.
The rest of the work was just inspecting things.

I do not believe the cost warrants the work carried out but have just spend £6000 on the bike and wanted to retain the warranty. Parts for the bike are far too expensive to purchase yourself in the case of an issue with it.

After the warranty period my bike will never see this or indeed any other mechanics spanner - I am a diy mechanic.

I calculate that the service should in reality cost around £120 at a non-HD garage but then we have no choice really.

My dealership in Iowa has done the 1K ($225), 5K($275), and 10K scheduled services on my xg750. I'm tied into them as a condition of the free tires for life deal that I got with the purchase of the bike. The 10K service was a little more expensive, but I had some other work done at the same time and don't have the breakdown on hand.

For me it is worth it to do the maintenance with the dealer in order to get the free tires.

Other than the scheduled maintenance, my goal is to do as much of the wrenching on the bike myself as I can and take most other things to my local independent mechanic.

For the Sportster I'll try to perform all the interim (5K) maintenance myself and take it to my independent mechanic or the local H-D dealer for the 10K maintenance work.

If you change the Oil and Filter yourself, You could save about $100. I was told that our "Lord" in the event of a Warranty Issue would inquire if the 1k Service was done. I'm assuming that was referring to Engine and Trans.

I would check with the Dealer. Its Possible they did it when they Used Bike checked it. I know my Dealership(Chapel) has done it on a few of the used bikes. According to the Hang Tags.

The cost at the dealership is not worth it. They would change the oil and filter - which you can do your self and then they will provide you with a fine inspection list that you can do yourself also. I did my service for less than $100

Belt and Clutch need to be adjusted. If the Belt was done wrong, The Rear Wheel wont be straight. Clutch, Shifting Issues.

They probably only really change the oil then eye ball the rest of the bike.
Actually, mine came back with a whole sheet of things they had measured and torqued. If they claim they do it and they don't there would be considerable liability should one of those things needed to have been done.

Just had mine done last week. I thought it was included complimentary service. Surprise! $366 (after a $50 discount)

I should've known though, that was on me
