Have questions about the USA production Street 750 ?

Motorcycle USA will be test riding one of the first 750's off the Kansas City production line next week in Austin Texas. And they have asked their readers to submit questions that they would like to see answered about the Street 750. They will be publishing a second review after their test ride. (they rode a pre-production model for their first review).

I have a few questions, it would be great if we get answers for these

1. What is the effect of screaming eagle exhausts on the performance and the fuel efficiency of the bike?

2. Right now there are just a couple of options for Handle bars. when are they planning to release more variants of bars like - Ex : A wide handle bar with the necessary cabling for it. Also when are we getting more options for rear view mirrors, the cheap looking switch controls of the street?

3. Security : The street doesnt have the key fob which is a very useful accessory. Can you ask them if they would introduce this accessory?

I think that these are questions that only Harley Davidson can answer. Motorcycle USA is a magazine periodical.

Heck, you can read "Endurance" on the shock body of US models. I didn't bother to look that closely at the brake calipers.
Front brake reservoir has endurance written on top of it
I wasn't aware that any USA made 750's have rolled off the line yet. Not that there will be any difference on these parts...but are you guys reporting on what you are seeing on the USA 500's?

sorry, I was referring to Indian Street 750. It has 'endurance' written on brake reservoir. I can't comment on US models. Maybe someone can check the 500s.
Here a picture of the rear shock and the brake reservoir.

Definitely Endurance on the Shock

Most US riders who even worry about that sort of thing figure the stock shocks, regardless of souce, are low quality junk and replace them with something "trick" from Ohlins, Wilburs or whomever (the Harley crowd tends to gravitate towards Progressive, which from my experience are probably lower quality than what comes with the bike from the factory, but I digress). OEM springs are almost always higher quality than what you get on aftermarket shocks. Whether the spring rate is right for you is another matter, but for spring quality the OEMs are usually better.

I laugh because the Showa shocks that come on so many sport bikes are fully rebuildable, and for a hundred bucks or so the owner can have a shop change the shock's damping to suite their needs. Instead they will toss a perfectly good Showa shock and pay hundreds of bucks for an Ohlins or Wilburs shock that doesn't really do anything their stock Showa shock could be made to do if a knowledgeable tuner went through it and changed the valving. There are only two different shock shaft diameters and two different seals used across the entire range of shocks Showa builds and pretty much every suspension shop knows how to rebuild and revalve them. But Showa isn't "trick". Sigh.

The shocks on most cruisers and all Harleys except the XR-1200X, are not rebuildable so you wear them out and buy something from the aftermarket. It's a shame that Harley didn't make the stock shocks on the Street Rod rebuildable because I challenge anyone to do a better job with the spring and damping rates than Harley did on that bike.

Would something like that sell in USA. I mean we Indians are used to it and don't care about vendors but there people seem to be more mature and demanding!
Yes I think it will sell. Personally I expect to spend about 4K making it the way I want it. But for the average starter bike or city commuter it is more than adequate.

Since im sort of new to this, what would that 4K you spend be on exactly?
About $2500 of it is because I will put a Sugarbear Springer front end on it.

Brembo brakes front and back, sintered pads.

New fat bars and riser mounts (Which means new grips, mirrors, and control levers)

New Horn and new location for the horn

Highway pegs

Power commander or other tuner until we can map the Harley ECM directly.

Exhaust system

Arnott Rear Shocks or possibly, after I get mine pulled apart, a modification to Arnott Softtail shock system.

Possibly a new radiator shroud

And a seat!:D

Look at this folks. Everyone is carping that an Endurance fork is a not high enough quality component for a modern Harley Davidson and this guy is going to put a springer fork on his! Geez. The Endurance parts will ride like a magic carpet compared to a springer.

Hah, we all have our own vision...... ever ride a Sugarbear front end? Not what you think, no pogo, no flop... **** neat front end.

That said it is still a rougher ride then a shock.
