Hey guys,

Getting a weird sound while riding and wanted to pick your brains for ideas.

  • Scraping sound
  • From the rear of the bike (like rear axle or brakes)
  • Periodic but not consistently. Like once every 1/2 second but changes- sometimes with speed or braking but that's not consistent either
  • Only while moving
  • Happens more with a passenger? The first time I heard it was when my wife was riding with me but I hear it alone, too.
Any ideas? The brakes? The belt? Any troubleshooting tips?

Check out the brakes. Could be that the brake pads are not retracting fully. However, when you say that it happens more often with pillion rider, put the bike on a stand to get the rear wheel rolling free from the ground and manually spin the wheel to see if something is touching the wheel. Lastly, see the wheel from the rear to see if it is aligned absolutely straight and in the centre of the rear fork and the mud guard. If it is off centre or not aligned properly, then you have found the fault.
