I’ve been riding my Street 500 for 3000 miles commuting from Pflugerville to South Austin. I bought it new in 2015. V&H pipes, tuner, and cold air intake got installed almost immediately.

It’s a good little bike. Gets great gas mileage.

Accessories and customization options are slim. I’ve put the few edge cut Harley has available on it and have found a few more options on Ali Express.

It bashes around the city. It doesn’t have nearly the performance of a V-Strom 650 but I like the look of it. And it’s the one I have.

I also have a v rod muscle for longer highway adventures and when I carry passengers. I really love that bike. Harley discontinued it.

I guess u have love for bikes, from V rod to 500 is a lot of difference. I read somewhere, wikipedia i think our street engine design/development are a bit tat similar to v-rod.

They really are two completely different bikes. The v rod is heavy and not nimble at all. But feels solid on the highway.

The street is very nimble and the clutch is easier to work in heavy traffic. It was built as a commuter bike for the India market.

The only thing that screws me up is the left blinker on the v rod is the horn on the street. So sometimes I honk at people accidentally lol

As far as the engines Porsche designed both. They are liquid cooled. Which is a really exciting new technology! (Lol JK)

My is getting hauled to xg750 to Austin as a starter bike for my nephew and his girl friend. The stock bike had plenty of power for me, so it never got the stage 1 upgrades...until now. Giving the bike a little more guts might make him consider a Harley Pan American as the first bike he buys for himself.

My nephew ultimately wants a BMW adventure touring bike. For now, though, the xg750 is what I have so what he gets. Eventually I may wind up springing for the Tuffside scrambler conversion kit, depending on how the initial lending of the bike goes.

My other bike is a Sportster. I have the same problem. Then I switch bikes and have a hard time finding the horn on the Sportster.

Liquiddog2, been wanting to get the windshield like yours, but dont like its attached to handlebar, still searching for the clip on BUT its a world apart between these 2 in term of pricing. does it in anyway the rod sticking out intrude riding ? max i can cruise 75mph, when 86mph, it gets uncomfortable on long ride as the standard little tiny stock does not help.

As far as the windshield at highway speed I passed at 80mph today and the windshield didn’t vibrate or move in any way.

I have an OEM quick release windshield on my vrod and it vibrates at 70 mph.

@Liquiddog2 I bought my XG Street 500 for the same reason to commute, with the added advantage I have, is that here in Australia the registration and Compulsory Third Party insurance are a lot cheaper than my other bike (Firebolt XB12R). Because they are learner rider approved by the authorities. Not to mention the comprehensive insurance on a sub-litre and non-sports bike being roughly half the cost!

I just returned from a ride on it to Grafton NSW part of which was on the Pacific Hwy which is a large interstate with a posted limit of 110km/h. I found that although I had an aerodynamic helmet (Shoei GT Air) the entire time on the open road was spent fighting with the wind to keep my head on my shoulders! I returned instead by the New England Hwy which is an inland road that has a 100km/h limit and that was much more relaxing!

Did you consider buying a batwing instead of what you bought and how much does the wind buffet you?

There’s a wind blast that comes over the windshield. It’s loud but doesn’t bother me. I could lean forward and there would be no wind. But I like to ride sitting straight up.

On open highways on the plains the strong gusts coming from the side can freak me out a little. If the wind feels really strong I just slow down.
