Your Warranty will be voided

if you or a HD dealer mounts on your motor-bike a non-HD slip-on muffler or air cleaner at time of purchase, or thereafter if you add one or both pieces, your engine warranty is voided. This may not be the case with some HD dealers like Independence HD in College Station TX, but it is the case with Alamo Cowboy HD in San Antonio, TX.

Alamo Cowboy HD in San Antonio, TX has taken the stance the V&H slip on muffler sold with my XG750 voided my warranty (which they have a right to do so). They will not repair the lag /surge problem unless I pay them for a discounted $850 dyno tune. Which they claim will fix the surge/lag problem. Nor will they acknowledge the low fuel light surge problem. I had previously filed a compliant with the NHTSB on the low fuel light engine cut-out problem.

Independence HD in College Station TX, is making a 300 mile round trip courtesy pick-up trip to come and get my bike and repair it under warranty. That's service.

Sorry to hear that it is annoying what some of the dealers put us through. We have a choice who we go to not the other way around like in their heads. The first dealer I went to tried charging me double the interest rate on the bike as well not throwing in any discounts on parts and accessories. I almost didn't buy then I found a common sense dealer who offered me half their interest rate through Harley Financial just like the other, $250 gift card and 10% parts for a year. When I went to fill in the paperwork I changed my mind from black to mysterious red and the numbers didn't seem right but I was at the point where I was like you know what they have helped me everywhere else if they get me a little here or there good for them but I didn't sign yet was going to do in two days when I picked up the bike. Well the sales manager called me the next day saying that when we switched the bikes it reset the sale and so I had lost $800 in savings they were giving me. I was hesitant on buying parts but after that I went and used that $800 on parts and a jacket as at that point I was comfortable with the price and payments. Customer service seems to be a dying attitude and especially when it comes to HD Dealers but I am glad I found a dealer I can trust more even if I have to travel a little extra for it.

They are required to prove that the modifications made caused the issue before voiding the warranty. A slip on muffler, will not affect a fuel pump. Fight it.

When I had the lag and leap issue, I had modified the pipe, air cleaner, and added an FP3. At first, HD service wanted me to put the bike back to stock, trying to tell me the bike was running too lean. I politely said that wasn't going to happen. After calling corporate HD several times, they told me to bring the bike back in. That's when the separated fuel pickup sock was discovered, and repaired under warranty. The service manager now knows me by first name when I go to the dealer. I understand that aftermarket mods give the dealers worries, but you must convince them that the abrupt fuel cutoff has nothing to do with aftermarket pipes, air cleaners, etc. Keep on them, as well as corporate. Be sure to note that you are filing a report with the relative agencies. There is now an investigation under way for this issue, I would not be surprised if a recall follows.

Hold up, so the sock is separating from the pump?

I was told by my dealer that there is no separate part (sock) from the fuel pump assembly. He said that everything is contained in one assembly unit and they do not take the assembly apart. In my case they replaced the fuel pump assembly 2 times. They replaced the fuel pump first time and it was fixed. It happened again after the tank was filled 3 times. For now it appears to be fixed. Let's see how long it will last.
Charles,
They are within their rights, have been fighting it. Thanks
No not in their rights on a known issue....actually two serious issues.here's a pic of a new pump with a zip tie secured to keep the poorly designed fuel sock from coming off, this is the second replacement pump put in my bike at 2700 miles, I dont believe it will have any lag leap issues anymore!

To 1st eliminate any problems the bike should be in stock configuration Because this is a new model dealers are quick to jump to conclusions as of what they have seen on other models (Pipes make a DRASTIC change on how the bike runs).
I work for a dealer and get frustrated when we can not find the issue just like the owner does.
We have taken the step of putting on the stock pipe to eliminate this when doing diagnostics So far i Have only had 2 bikes in with issues 1 was for real and the other was that the owner was too excited to listen to the salesman (you can crank it over with the run switch off)
Yes there are issues that I have heard about and all I can stress is take it to your dealer and let them know about it but Please understand most of them are there to help but if you become hostile
then put yourself in their shoes .Like OBTUSE has done create a working relationship. We can all work this out.THIS IS A SWEET BIKE.
Enjoy.
So i took the baffle out of my bike and it is doing the lag that everyone is talking about...i need to put it back in before i take it to the dealer for them to fix it?

How has the bike been since fitting the "zip tie" pump assembly?

Has it fixed the problem?
I am sure there are dealers that care, but when your service person just says that you need to make sure it has no less then a gallon of gas in the tank, it comes off a bit sketchy and frustrating. I haven't had the lag and leap problem for a bit, but I know how scary it can be to not know if the problem will occur randomly.
