What was your biggest challenge in mounting your bags? Critter

 

Well, part of the problem was I let my son leave too early! He was my second set of hands. Once I had the bag lined up, I released him to go hang with friends.

However, I am not sure a second set of hands would have been what I needed. It is hard to actually get any kind of writing implement down behind the bag when you are holding it up against the fender bolts, so even thought I measured and re-measured my holes ended up being drilled approximately. So I had to press hard to align the new bolts with the fender holes. Had a few false starts, misthreadings, etc.

Add to that the awkwardness of the velcro on the lid, so you have to hold it open at all times but don't let it flop too far open as it will get in the way of the bolts. If it flops closed you have to use both hands to reopen.

And of course, once you remove the two fender bolts on one side, the decorative trim pieces fall down. And then the spacer assemblies for the quick release luggage will of course drop on the ground and scatter, and you will then need to recreate the spacer order by comparing with the other side . . . but of course once you finally get one side on and then the other, you will find that the rear mount points from the luggage rack were not in fact respaced propeerly and you will have to unbolt then rebolt those pieces.

If you are me, you will be swearing in the 90 degree heat, hoping your wife whose office window is open does not hear you.

Don't be like me. Have a helper and go super slow. Allow 2 hours.

 

Day maker looks sweet! Was it difficult to install? Probably cake walk compared to your saddle bags lol

 

Ever consider using Easy Brackets for mounting your bags?

 

I didn't look at the Easy Brackets, though Viking offers a similar quick release setup. In that case, I was worried about adding too much width to the bike's cross section -- I think I made the right decision on that score, as the bags are just about at the edge of what I find acceptable. (Definitely looks better from the side than the rear.)

However, given how cumbersome fitting the bags to the bike was, it would have been MUCH easier to just fit the bracket to the bike!

 

On the Daymaker headlamp, I had the dealer do it as a part of my deal so I do not know how hard or easy it is to install. From what I hear (again, this is not first hand) . . . it is simple.
